Fatherhood Manologues
Co-produced by HartBeat Ensemble and My People Clinical Services
Conceived by Abdul-Rahmaan I. Muhammad and written and performed by the men of the Manhood Tree Group, Fatherhood Manologues is a collection of “Moth-like” short stories primarily by black men about fatherhood. Each story is a highly personal perspective on being a father or being fathered (a.k.a. fatherhood). Performed using the structure of The Manhood Tree group process, these stories will demonstrate the important role fathers play in the lives of their children. The significance of having involved fathers or the impact of father absenteeism is felt in each of the stories. With societal stereotypes and social expectations wrapped tightly around the term “fatherhood,” Fatherhood Manologues is an expression of black men creating their own narratives.
